Why the bottom row matters.
L. plantarum is one of the best-studied species for plastic-binding in the published literature. But the table shows an important point: species name does not predict performance on its own. One L. plantarum strain showed near-zero binding. Another showed strong binding. Two bacteria can share the same species label and still behave very differently. That is why strain designation matters. Binding is strain-specific, not species-specific.

Winnow is a 2-pill per day probiotic supplement with a patent-pending probiotic blend shown to bind microplastics in the laboratory. Winnow’s microplastic binding probiotics are complemented with additional probiotics that support a balanced gut microbiome, helping reinforce digestive health and resilience in the face of modern environmental exposures.
Is Winnow the same as my current daily probiotic?
No… and yes. Winnow contains a high CFU (colony forming units) dosage of the most researched, tested, and proven probiotic strains on the market which support overall digestive health. And, Winnow does something no other probiotic does. It includes a proprietary, patent-pending blend of probiotics selected for their unique abilities to bind microplastics in gut-simulated lab tests.
Can Winnow remove microplastics from your body?
Winnow is not designed to remove plastics that have already moved into the bloodstream, tissues, or organs.
Winnow works in the gut. Its mechanism is simple. Certain probiotics can bind to micro and nanoplastics. In our lab testing, these strains capture plastic particles in simulated gut conditions. You can find more detail on our science page.
Winnow is not a detox and not a cure. It supports gut function by helping carry bound microplastics forward as the probiotics pass through the digestive system.

What kind of fiber blend does Winnow use, and why?
Winnow uses a simple blend of organic rice fiber and raw potato starch. The rice fiber supports natural movement through the gut, while the raw potato starch provides resistant starch, a prebiotic that nourishes beneficial microbes and reinforces the gut’s natural barrier.
Does Winnow contain plastic?
No! Winnow is plastic-free from the capsule to the package.
Should I be concerned about microplastics in my body?
Loaded question. Microplastics awareness and research is still relatively new and evolving quickly. No one knows definitively the health risks they pose. But, where there’s smoke, there’s often fire. Microplastics contain BPA, PFAS and other harmful “forever” chemicals. Studies suggest potential respiratory, digestive, reproductive, cardiovascular, immune system, and brain health related risks.
